My first impressions of Secrets To Dog Training :

“Oh great, here’s another dog training book”

What Secrets To Dog Training has helped me achieve:

Everything from just simply getting my dog to listen to me to understanding how he views me as the “alpha male”. It has helped me potty train him more effectively as well. It has also saved me from many almost embarassing moments at the park.

The top 5 things that I learned from Secrets To Dog Training :

How to get my dog to listen to me. How to potty train him effectively. Understanding the way that he thinks. Not having to discipline him incorrectly anymore. Getting through to him effectively without being having him embarass me at the park or outdoor event.

What I find most useful about Secrets To Dog Training :

The fact that I can go back to it anytime and read back over any topic in the book because I own it. If I ever run into another problem with my dog, I can just refer back to the subject in the book.

Who would benefit from purchasing Secrets To Dog Training :

Anybody having problems with any type of dis-obedience from their dog. The book covers pretty much everything from A to Z to get your dog trained fast.

What I think was left out of Secrets To Dog Training :

A little more of a history of dogs and how they have become household pets.

How quickly Secrets To Dog Training can help someone:

Depending on how fast they get through the material and start implementing what they have learned, they can start seeing results as soon as the following day..

Proof that Secrets To Dog Training really works:

My dog went from a highly dis obedient mut that would tear up the trash along with anything else he could get to whenever I wasn’t around to actually listening to me when I told him “no”.

Negatives about Secrets To Dog Training :

I don’t really have any negatives about the product. It has actually helped me out trremendously and my dog and i actually have a great relationship because of this information.

Additional skills or tools needed to get the most out of Secrets To Dog Training :

Just a basic understanding of how your dog thinks. You’ll learn more about that after going through the book.

My final words about Secrets To Dog Training :

Overall I think this product is great. It has helped me out tremendously and because of that I am extremely thankfull thatI took the time to go over this products inforrmation. It was getting to the point that my wife seriously wanted to get rid of our dog.

The Dog “potty spot”

Housebreaking your dog means deciding when and WHERE you want
your dog to go potty. Once you have decided what sort of routine
you want your dog on, then it is time to decide WHERE you want
your dog to go potty.

Having a “potty spot” will help ease the housebreaking challenge.

After your dog has gone potty, chemicals within their waste are
released. These chemicals are called “pheremones”. These
chemicals are what tell your dog to go potty again when they
go back to their potty spot. These chemicals also let other
dogs knows that this potty spot is claimed.

Establishing a potty spot is key in housebreaking your dog.
If your dog is having trouble at understanding where their potty
spot is and is having mistakes in the house, or in places that
you don’t want them to go potty, then try feeding them where
these accidents are taking place. Dogs will not potty where
they sleep OR where the eat, so by feeding your dog in their
accident areas, you will be eliminating potty accidents in
those areas.

Please understand that all dogs have accidents and housebreaking
your dog is a process. It’s more like running a marathon than it
is like running down the street. Be patient and stay positive.
Your dog will sense your positive energy and it will keep them
from getting frustrated and resisting your training. And
remember, positive reinforcements will always give you better
results than any other training method out there.

The Aggressive Canine

The Aggressive Canine

Dog potty training does demand some sort of firmness as well as consistency. Indeed training the aggressive breeds can sometimes pose a problem, especially if the dog has gained size. Rottweiler, huskies, German shepherds, pit bulls, etc are a few common aggressive breed dogs. However this is not to say that other dogs like the Dalmatians, Pomeranians, Labrador, etc can not get aggressive.

Dog potty training will form an important aspect of both the house friendly dog as well as the guard dog, but the training method of the two is mostly a bit different.

A preview into dog potty training for the aggressive canine follows below-

  • Ensure a rapport – Before you begin the dog potty program, ensure that your dog sees you not only as a caregiver, but as an owner and master too. The dog must be clear that while you give it love, food and care, you are also one to be able to control the canine.
  • Ensure a happy dog – Even the most loving of dogs can get aggressive if not happy and even the most aggressive ones can become complete family dogs if brought up in a caring atmosphere. So make sure that the canine is happy and not frustrated. Do not keep the pet tied all day long and only walk him for the dog potty training bit, since this is bound to make the pet aggressive and jumpy.
  • Do not hit – Dog potty training for an aggressive dog will lose all focus if you hit the animal when an accident occurs. If at all there is a need to create fear, do so by using paper whacks that do not injure but simply make a noise. However, it is a known fact that rewards work better than hitting and the latter only makes the dog more aggressive.
  • Protection – Even after your dog is potty trained, keep in mind that it is important to protect not only yourself but others from the temper of the canine. For this it is important that you always keep a mesh on the dog’s mouth even during the outdoor dog potty training routine. This way the dog knows that before it steps out for a walk, a mesh will be put on and is not bothered by it. However, make sure you take the mesh off as soon as the dog returns home.
  • Be patient – Aggressive dogs on an average take more time to learn to follow commands and this holds true for the dog potty training too. So if you have had passive dogs before and find that your aggressive canine is taking longer than usual to get the basic idea of the potty training routine, do not loose your cool.

If you find that despite all your efforts, the dog potty training is not going anywhere with your aggressive canine, then do consider working with a professional. These trainers know how to deal with all types of dogs and will be able to guide you on how to go about the process in a much more structured fashion.

Don’t Use this!

Here is a really good cleaning tip when it comes to cleaning up after your dogs potty mess inside your home.

Don’t use Ammonia!

Did you know that ammonia is actually made with Urine and in most cases can draw a dog back to the very spot that you painstakingly cleaned up thinking that the ammonia would deter him from the potty accident area.

He will most likely return to soil that same area if you use ammonia to clean it up.

What you want to use is an enzyme based cleaner that will dissolve and neutralize the urine. The cleaning agent should typically have a high alkaline ph which is the exact opposite of acidic urine. This will definitely kill any odor causing bacteria that could still linger in the area that has been soiled. Whether it be urine or feces these types of cleaners should do the trick for you.

If you don’t have any enzyme based cleaners what you could do is use baking soda to clean up the mess. Just mix up some baking soda in some water and apply it to the soiled area, then absorb it with a towel or unless you happen to have a small shop vac on hand. Shop vacs can typically draw all of the liquid out of the carpet. You can find small, easy to manuver shop vacs at home depot or lowes. Then, after drawing all of the liquid out you can mix up some white vinegar and club soda, pour it on the soiled area and just put a towel over top of it and let it dry.

That should remove any further scents that could still be lingering in the previously soiled area.
